What is Thai Massage?

Thai massage is one of the most popular forms of massage in both the UK and the world today and has been greatly influenced through other oriental forms of massage such as those in India and China. Thai massage can actually be described as one of the more energetic forms of massage available and can be either full body, foot or head massage depending on what is required.

Similar to other forms of oriental massage therapy already discussed, the Thai massage also works on energy lines that are present within the body and the aim of this type of massage is to promote the flow of this energy as well as clearing any blockages within the system and help to promote the flow of both blood and lymph within the body.

Some benefits of Thai Massage

The main traditional form of thai massage therapy actually dates back over 2000 years and is great for both helping to relax one’s body and mind and there are also many ailments that this form of massage is said to be good for including the following:

  • Back pain
  • Bad Posture
  • Muscles Pain and Cramps
  • Stiffness
  • Indigestion
  • Anxiety, Stress and Depression

The traditional method of thai massage will be performed when the client is fully clothed and takes place on a mat on the floor in the massage parlour and no massage oils are used in the process. However there are lots of different types of thai massage styles and some of these will include oil and also be performed on a massage table of bed.

In the Thai form of massage the energy system or energy lines that are worked on within the body are referred to as ‘Prana’ – and the fundamental teachings of this form of massage therapy is that  is is essential to both physical and mental health that this energy is able to move freely through the body.

It is said that whenever these lines are blocked or Prana is not able to move freely throughout the body that this is when illness of disease will enter the body – which can either be of a physical, emotional or a spiritual nature.

By regularly partaking in Thai asian massage it is said to bring both the body, mind as well as the spirit into a total state of equilibrium and harmony, allowing for self healing withing body and mind.
